Mass Media Ministry wants journalists to be vaccinated

The Ministry of Mass Media has requested the Secretary to the Health Ministry to provide vaccines to journalists as they encounter with the public in reporting COVID-19 related incidents.

In a letter, the Ministry raised the point that journalists report COVID-19 related news bearing a high risk of contracting the virus and thus, requested to consider them as a priority group in the inoculation program.

“The journalists have been in the forefront of the pandemic as they have been reporting COVID-19 related incidents right throughout from the beginning of the pandemic,” it underlined.

Accordingly, the Ministry requested the Health Ministry to provide the vaccine to staff as well as the journalists of all the institutions which come under the purview of the Mass Media Ministry.

Earlier, Mass Media Minister Keheliya Rambukwella made a request to the COVID-19 Task Force to provide vaccines to journalists. (Sheain Fernandopulle)
