All train services including office trains operating on the mainline were delayed this morning due to the yesterday's train derailment between the Maradana and Dematagoda railway stations, The Railway Control Room said.

They said the derailed train could not be removed last night.

Therefore, one rail track was completely obstructed.

All other trains were operated with the use of one line.

The derailment occurred at around 3.20 p.m when the Class M11- 953 locomotive was on its way to Mt. Lavinia from the Maradana Yard, they said.

The maintenance unit is currently engaged in restoring the operations.

Meanwhile, the train services between Bandarawela and Diyathalawa have been obstructed due to an earth slip.

The Colombo Fort bound Badulla night train operated up to Diyatalawa while Badulla bound Colombo Fort train operated up to Bandarawela.

However, the train services between Bandarawela and Diyathalawa resumed at 8.30 this morning after the track was cleared. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
