A 25-year old man was killed and his 13-year old brother was injured when they tried to cut a mortar shell using a grinder at a house in Paranthan in Kilinochchi today.
Police Spokesman SSP Nihal Thalduwa said the deceased man had found the mortar shell in a deserted area and brought it to his home.
The motar had exploded while he was trying to cut it, killing the man on the spot.
His younger brother who was present at the scene had been admitted to the Kilinochchi Hospital with injuries.
During a search of the house premises, police found several mortar shells.
The Kilinochchi Police are conducting further investigations.(DSB)
