Man arrested while offering Rs. 2 lakh to Dompe OIC

The Bribery Commission officials have arrested two suspects for accepting bribes while another for attempting to bribe the Dompe Police OIC, in three separates cases reported from Kandy, Dambulla and Dompe.

Director (Investigations) of the Bribery Commission, SSP Padmini Weerasuriya said an individual from Kelaniya was arrested for attempting to offer Rs. 200,000 to the Dompe Police OIC at the Police Station. The suspect had attempted to bribe the Police OIC in order to have his brother released, who was arrested on possession of cannabis .

Meanwhile, SSP Weerasuriya said a worker at the Port Authority was also arrested in Kandy while accepting Rs. 21,000 as a bribe from a female management assistant attached to the Kandy Labour Department office.

Accordingly, the suspect agreed to help the woman to be transferred to the Kandy Superintendent of Police (SP) office, for a sum of Rs. 26,000. In addition the suspect also had promised the woman to take steps to provide a state land deed from Digana.

The suspect, a resident of Kapuliedda would be produced in the Kandy Magistrate’s Court.

Meanwhile, the Bribery Commission officials had arrested a planning officer attached to the Matale UDA office while accepting Rs. 50,000 as a bribe. He had solicited the bribe in order to reclaim a land in Dambulla. (Darshana Sanjeewa Balasuriya)
