Maldives releases 21 SL fishermen detained there

The 21 Sri Lankan fishermen who were detained in the Maldives after they were arrested in late February for trespassing into Maldivian waters, had been released, State Minister of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development Dilip Wedaarachchi said.

He confirmed to Daily Mirror that the 21 fishermen had returned to Sri Lanka on Thursday (11) night after leaving the Maldives on SriLankan Airlines flight UL104.

State Minister Wedaarachchi said spadework to get the fishermen released had been done by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe after he held talks on the matter with the Maldivian authorities. (Sheain Fernandopulle)
