National Movement for Social Justice (NMSJ) Convener Sarath Wijesuriya said yesterday they believe that Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and the Government will keep its word not to re-appoint Central Bank Governor Arjuna Mahendran till the investigations into the controversial CB bond scam was concluded.

Professor Wijesuriya said the Prime Minister had assured that Mr. Mahendran would not be re-appointed till the investigations being carried out by the parliamentary Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE) was completed.

He was one of the civil society members who met the Prime Minister on Saturday where several matters were discussed.

“The meeting with the Prime Minister was concluded on a positive note with an assurance that Mr. Mahendran will not be reappointed till the investigations are over and we trust this will be implemented,” he said.

The other demands made by the group was to remove VAT on health and education services and to appoint a special court to deal with fraud and corruption (Yohan Perera)
