The opposition yesterday said it would hold a public rally against the government which will be led by Opposition Leader Mahinda Rajapaksa in Kandy on March 8.

The Kandy rally would be the first of a series of 10 public rallies entitled ‘enough is enough’ (Iwasuwa Athi), which would be held in 10 districts ending in December this year.

The final rally would be held in Colombo and would be preceded by a march which would commence its journey from Kataragama.

Addressing a news briefing, MP Dullas Alahapperuma said the rally would be held against the alienation of national assets, increasing cost of living, postponement of elections, corruption and ‘separatist’ constitutional amendments.

Meanwhile, Kandy District MP Mahindananda Aluthgamage said the present government has proved to be the most ineffective government in the history of the country.

“Yesterday marked the four year anniversary of the robbery that was perpetrated on the Central Bank. Not a single case had been filed against those who are responsible. In the meantime, the government continues to lease out airports and harbours to other countries,” he said. (Lahiru Pothmulla)
