MPs not attending parliament should be revealed: Dullas

MP Dullas Alahapperuma today said the MPs who are not regularly attending parliament was unfortunate and the media should reveal details of such MPs at the end of each parliamentary week.

Responding to a question during a news briefing, he said MPs are only required to attend parliament 48 hours a month.

“It is a sorry state of affairs that some MPs don’t attend parliament regularly. Let alone during special debates, but most of them don’t even use library privileges or attend committee meetings,” he said.

He said the Opposition MPs also discussed the issue when they met recently.

Meanwhile, MP Wimal Weerawansa said many MPs elected from other districts come to Colombo during the parliamentary sessions but do not show up in parliament.(Lahiru Pothmulla)
