Long-distance buses would operate on Monday (11) after the Government granted authorisation to cross the districts, Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) Chairman Kingsley Ranawaka said today.

Speaking to the Daily Mirror he said about 1,500 buses had been added to the service from Monday.

He said the employees who arrive at workplaces would get the service during office hours.

Furthermore, the Chairman said buses would be assigned for institutions to transport employees following requests by them under a certain fee.

“If any Government or private institution wants to transport their employees between Colombo other districts, those institutions should arrange that service,” Mr Ranawaka said.

However, Transport Minister Mahinda Amaraweera earlier said that the public had not been allowed to travel via buses between districts. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
