A policy decision has been taken at the cabinet meeting to make the country's electricity generation completely carbon depleted by the year 2050, Cabinet media spokesman and media Minister Dullas Alahapperuma said.
Addressing the weekly cabinet meeting today, he said the cabinet approval was also granted for the policy decision taken by the government to meet 70% of the country's total electricity demand through renewable energy sources by the year 2030.
He said the cabinet proposal was presented by the Power Minister. (CS)
