Landslide early warning issued for four districts

The National Building Research Organization (NBRO) today issued landslide warnings for Kalutara, Galle, Kegalle and Ratnapura districts.

People in those areas were asked to be watchful on sudden appearance of water sprouts, cracks on walls and on the soil as these may be signs of impending landslides.

Meanwhile, Department of Meteorology said there was a high possibility to increase the wind speed up to 70-80 kmph associated with thundershowers in the deep and shallow sea areas off the coast extending from Galle to Trincomalee via Hambantota and Batticaloa and the sea areas extending from Kankasanturai to Puttalam via Mannar.

“The mentioned sea areas can be rough or very rough. The other sea areas around the island can be fairly rough at times as the wind speed can increase up to 50-55 kmph at times,” it said.

The Department requested the naval and fishing communities to be vigilant in this regard. (Sheain Fernandopulle)
