JVP awaiting UNP’s final decision on 20A

The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) has informed Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe to let them know the United National Party (UNP)’s final stance on 20th amendment which is aimed at abolishing of the executive presidency by May this year.

JVP MP Vijitha Hearth told the media that his party had conveyed their request to the Prime Minister when its delegation led by party leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake met the PM at his office in the parliamentary complex this afternoon.

The Prime Minister had informed the JVP delegation that the UNP has passed a resolution at its convention calling for the abolition of the executive presidency and that this stance had not changed.

The JVP had told the premier that it would prepare for the presidential poll if there was no consensus on the 20th amendment soon.

The JVP delegation comprised of Mr.Dissanayake, Mr. Hearth and MP Nalinda Jayatissa while the Prime Minister was accompanied by Minister Malik Samarawickrama. (Yohan Perera and Ajith Siriwardana)
