Iranian woman arrested with ‘Kush’ cannabis at BIA

A 24-year -old Iranian woman has been arrested on possession of 400 grammes of ‘Kush’ narcotic substance at the Bandaranaike International Airport early this morning, police said.

Police Spokesman SP Ruwan Gunasekera said the woman, who had arrived from Doha, Qatar was arrested by the Police Narcotic Bureau (PNB) officers at the Airport.

She had concealed the narcotic substance in a false bottom of her luggage.

Meanwhile, two suspects aged 44 and 45 from Jaffna, were arrested with 41.5 kg of Kerala Cannabis worth more than Rs. 5 million during a raid near the Mohideen Jumma Mosque in Jaffna yesterday evening.

SP Gunasekera said the PNB officers arrested the suspects while transporting the Kerala Cannabis in a motorcycle, following a tip-off.

The suspects would be produced in the Jaffna Magistrate's Court.(Darshana Sanjeewa)
