Filing a further report, the FCID on Tuesday told the court that Interpol has issued red notice on former director of one Ukrainian company, D.A. Pereeudov in connection with the magisterial inquiry conducted into the financial loss caused to the government when purchasing US$ 14 million worth four Ukraine-built MIG 27 aircraft in 2006.

The prosecution also informed that they have also requested the Interpol to issue red notices on several other directors of the company over the investigation.

FCID IP Nihal Francis also told Court that the prosecution will inform the court about the progress of suspect Udayanga Weeratunga's extradition inquiry on next date, as it is currently in progress in Dubai. During the financial inquiry conducted over this transaction, the FCID has also revealed some suspicious transactions between Singaporean company known as D.S. Alliance and a cousin of suspect Weeratunga's spouse.

The FCID had also recorded statements from seven former officials of Air Force over the procurement process and the prosecution said according to those statements, those officials have said that there was no links between D.S. Alliance and the procurement process. However, the prosecution was of the view that the investigation so far has revealed that there was a link between D.S. Alliance and the procurement of MIG27s directly.

The case was postponed for November 19, 2019. (Shehan Chamika Silva)
