Former Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka has been indicted in the Colombo High Court today on charges of reckless driving and failure to prevent an accident.

When the case was taken up before Colombo High Court Judge Namal Walalle today, the indictments were read out in open court and handed over to the accused.

The lawyer who appeared for Mr. Ranawaka said that his senior counsel intends to file a preliminary objection stating that the High Court has no jurisdiction to hear these allegations.

Deputy Solicitor General Dileepa Peiris, who appeared for the complainant, said that such an objection could be made at the outset of the case.

However, after listening to the submissions, the Judge ordered to file preliminary objections on April 27 and postponed the hearing.(Yoshitha Perera)
