Illegal migration attempt thwarted

The Navy and the Special Task Force (STF) today arrested 24 Sri Lankans including two masterminds behind the human trafficking racket, when they were attempting to illegally leave for the Reunion Island via sea route.

Police Spokesman SP Ruwan Gunasekera said the 22 suspects were arrested at a lodge in Siyambalanduwa following a tip off.

At the time of their arrest, the suspects were planning to leave for the Reunion Island via sea route. Three women and four children were among the arrested.

Meanwhile, the two human traffickers were arrested at a lodge in Pannegamuwa, Tissamaharama.
