Sports Minister Namal Rajapaksa expressed his regrets over the eleventh-hour resignation of Chaminda Vaas, who was appointed Consultant bowling coach during the Sri Lanka's tour of the Caribbean.

He told Parliament that the Sri Lankan team had to leave for the West Indies without a fast bowling coach due to the resignation of Vaas.

Responding to a question raised by SJB MP Thushara Indunil, he said he was not justifying the reason behind the resignation as monetary matters could have been negotiated with the SLC.

“Vass is on a coaching contract with SLC. He was agreed a tour fee of Rs. 750,000 in addition to the contract fee. We were planning to recruit him as the bowling coach on a long term basis after the West Indies Tour. We discussed it with him also. He could have negotiated his payment issues when renewing the contract,” he said.(Ajith Siriwardana and Yohan Perera)
