All high profile criminals detained in prisons would be identified and sent to the Boossa Prison and several such prisoners have already been transferred to Boossa, Defence Secretary Kamal Gunaratna said.
He said high-tech equipment had been installed at the Boossa Prison to prevent any prisoner from using mobile phones to communicate with outsiders.
Major General (Retd) Gunaratne said underworld criminal activities, organized crimes, drug trafficking as well as extortion rackets were operated from within prison walls.
He said there were some prison officials who support prisoners to operate these illegal activities within the prisons.
“We are planing to implement several measures to prevent operating drug networks and underworld activities from inside the prisons. We have set up two scanners at the Angunukolapelessa and Boossa Prisons. I have instructed the Acting IGP to deploy STF personnel to maintain security outside, ” he said.
