A watcher of the estate ‘Dostara-Watte’ in Weligama had been arrested by the Police Narcotic Bureau for aiding and abetting the soldier and the army deserter who were arrested recently with 45 kilos of heroin in Horana.

Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said following the interrogation of the suspects, the PNB identified several locations in Dostara-Watte in the Weligama Police area, which have been used to hide heroin.

Sniffer dog ‘Rocky’ of the Police Kennels Division deployed to locate the heroin hiding spots, he said.

The Panadura Central Anti-Vice Striking Unit arrested two suspects for the possession of 45 kg while travelling in a van in Horana on February 25.

The vehicle used on a rental basis for administrative purposes of the Army in Colombo belongs to the Mechanized Infantry Regiment (MIR) in Dambulla.

The soldier and the deserter are currently being detained by the PNB for further investigation.

DIG Rohana said that the drugs belonged to notorious drug trafficker Ruwan Madush Chinathaka alias ‘Harak Kata’ who is operating from Middle East.  It was revealed that he is using locals for his drug trafficking operations. ‘Harak Kata’ is an accomplice of drug kingpin ‘Angoda Lokka’ who is reportedly died in India.(DSB)
