Former Defence Secretary and ex-People’s Bank Chairman Hemasiri Fernando who is now in remand custody, yesterday provided a statement to the police unit attached to the Presidential Commission on the series of alleged irregularities that had taken place during the digitalisation process of the People’s Bank.
The Presidential Commission had observed that the People's Bank has incurred a significant loss during the bank digitalisation process.
Earlier, testifying before the Commission Auditor General's Department official Chamali Indika informed that the audit query had identified a number of issues related to the procurement process of the digitalisation programme.
The Commission was also informed that the bank had to adhere to the government procurement process when handling such projects but the bank had come up with their own procurement guidelines. (Yoshitha Perera)
