Minister of Public Security Sarath Weerasekera and SJB MP Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka were engaged in heated verbal exchange, throwing allegations against each other in Parliament today.

Minister Weerasekera alleged that Field Marshal Fonseka has got a large sum of money as commission for a ship which he had brought down after the war and had deposited it in a bank. “You should not throw stones while staying in a glass castle,” he said.

“My personal secretary who has been alleged to have dug for gold belonging to LTTE has been interdicted. CID is carrying out investigations on it. Nothing has been proven as yet. Also don’t call the police a timid lot,” the Minister said.

He defended the killing of underworld figure Tinker Lasantha. “We were able to recover 20 pistols from Lasantha’s hideout. It is you who is timid,” he said.

MP Fonseka said the recent killing of the underworld figure Tinker Lasantha was a timid act. “Killings such as these will damage the country’s reputation. We will see which Sarath is timid,” MP Fonseka said.

Also he alleged that the Minister is also involved in the incident of digging buried gold.(Yohan Perera and Ajith Siriwardana)
