With the support of the government led by the health sector, the military, and the people, we can go for a total lockdown of the country or march ahead controlling the spread of the COVID virus, the Government Medical Officers' Association (GMOA) said.

Addressing the media today, GMOA Assistant Secretary Dr. Samantha Ananda said the above two parties are responsible for both decisions.

"The government, led by the health sector and the military, always worked hard to control the virus. But the people are always trying to sneak through the loopholes created by the above, " he said.

With the association of the above parties, we can either close the country, keep it open and engage our usual duties, or we can decide on the flexible and normalised situation while controlling the virus, Dr. Ananda said.

As a responsible association, the GMOA had pointed out that scientific methods needed to control the COVID virus with the support of both parties, he said.

If we do not manage the situation with the association of the parties, chances highly likely of going for another total lockdown of the country or decide on a stringent travel restrictions, Dr. Ananda added. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
