Former Sports Minister Harin Fernando today invited former UPFA MP Namal Rajapaksa for a joint struggle to create machinery and a culture in the new Parliament where MPs of different parties could work together when they hold the same ideology on certain issues.

Mr. Fernando came up with this invitation recalling the idea voiced by Mr. Rajapoaksa on the recent allegation made by former Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage that the cricket world cup final in 2011 was fixed.

Mr. Rajapaksa has called for the International Cricket Council to look into the allegations of match fixing during the 2011 Cricket World Cup.

“I implore the International Cricket Council and the Minister of Sports to immediately take action on these accusations and hold an impartial investigation on the matter, based on this alleged evidence,” Rajapaksa said in a tweet.

“Accusations such as these are very serious and tarnish the image of a sport that we all truly love,” he added.

Mr. Fernando said he would agree with Mr. Rajapaksa who has said accusations tarnish the image of a sport which everyone loves. “It seems that Mr. Rajapaksa holds the same idea as us. We could work together in this issue. Therefore I invite him to join me and other MPs to build up a culture and machinery in the new Parliament where we could work together whenever we agree on various issues,” he said.(Yohan Perera)
