The decisions made by President to halt police promotions and Committee on Public Enterprises' (COPE) decision to repatriate Sri Lankan expatriate workers using Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau (SLBFE) funds are commendable, but the Head of state should see to it that these decisions are implemented,  SJB MP and Head of Operations Harin Fernando said today.

The SJB Head of Operations speaking at a press conference said, the President should see to it that things are done in the proper manner, as time is running out.

“We are happy about the directive given by COPE to use the SLBFE funds to repatriate Sri Lankan expatriate workers, as we have been raising the issue several times. Also we are happy about the decision by the President to halt promotions within the police department. The President should listen to criticism and see the right decisions are implemented, as the time is flying. The President has only 1022 days to rule this country being the head of state, and therefore he should see to it that the decisions are implemented. He will not be a failed leader if he does this,” Mr. Fernando said.

Also he said, former President Maithirpala Sirisena was right in opposing the move to hand over the Eastern Terminal of Colombo Port to a private company.

Responding to a question raised by the journalists on former MPs Arjuna Ranatunga and Navin Dissanayake, Mr. Fernando said they are always welcomed to join SJB because they are clean.“ We won’t mind joining with all UNPers except for two persons who have been charged with corruption,” he said.(Yohan Perera)
