Nuwara Eliya town experienced a hail storm in the early hours of last morning. Residents of the area said Nuwara Eliya experienced hail storms usually in January every year however the hailstorm experienced this year was heavier.
They pointed out that the area around the race course and cultivated land were the worst affected. Vegetable farmers said they immediately sprayed water to wash away hail that covered crops to prevent crop devastation. They said that the tea estates had been adversely affected by hail storms last year too.
However, the hail storm created a spectacular experience for the tourists who were on a visit to Nuwara Eliya to spend the weekend. (Ranjith Rajapakse and Shelton Hettiarachchi)
