The Colombo High Court today fixed the case filed against former Minister Patali Champika and two others over an alleged road accident on February 28, 2016, for trial on May 31.
The case was taken up before Colombo High Court Judge Damith Thotawatta.
The case was filed against three accused persons; former Minister Champika Ranawaka, his driver Thusith Dilum Kumara and ASP Sudath Asmadala on charges of fabricating and concealing evidence.
The indictments including 16 charges which have been filed against all the three accused on fabricating false evidence, conspiracy of fabricating false evidence and submitting dubious reports to the Court.
The main charge relates to conspiring and fabricating false evidence to claim that it was Dilum Thusith Kumara who was at the wheels when accident took place and another charge relates to him for allegedly conspiring to conceal evidence to protect MP Patali Champika from facing legal action.
ASP Sudath Asmadala was charged with producing a false report to the Colombo Magistrate’s Court in order to protect former Minister Ranakwaka from legal facing action.
Meanwhile, preliminary objections against the indictment are scheduled to be taken up on April 27.(Yoshitha Perera and Farook Thajudeen)
