Grounded IAF heli flies off

The Indian Air Force helicopter which was part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s entourage on his two-day Sri Lanka visit, that was grounded in Kandy due to a technical fault for five days, had departed this morning.

The Mi-17 helicopter was grounded at the Asgiriya grounds after it failed to take off last Friday (12) when Modi departed in his special flight.

Sri Lankan Air Force has assisted in the repair, while another helicopter of Indian Air Force with engineers arrived in Kandy to repair the helicopter.

A fleet of helicopters were used for Modi’s travel from Colombo to Dikoya, Kandy and from there back to Colombo international airport to return to India. (J.A.L. Jayasinghe)
