The government reserved the Kattankudy hospital today for the treatment of COVID-19 patients and the suspected cases, an official said.

Director General of Health Services Dr.Anil Jasinghe told Daily Mirror online that the government also commissioned the hurriedly arranged hospital in Iranawila today by admitting five persons from Suduwella, who tested positive.

“We converted the building that housed the Voice of America to a hospital. We commissioned the hospital today by admitting these five persons who tested positive while being at a quarantine facility in Oluwil,” he said.

He said the new cases that were reported today were from among those Beruwala people who were referred to a quarantine center.

“We have increased the hospital and testing capacities. We now have 13 laboratories conducting PCR testing. We had only one. We could do all these things because we kept the number of cases at a minimal level. Had we been inundated with a large number of patients, we could not have concentrated on the development of such health infrastructure,” he said.(Kelum Bandara)
