Govt. plans to resume Jaffna - Chennai direct flights: Minister

The government is planning to resume direct flights from Jaffna to Chennai, which were suspended due to the COVID-19 outbreak, Tourism Minister Prasanna Ranatunga said.

He said this is expected to be launched under the same bio bubble concept for tourists and expected resume between India and Sri Lanka.

He said, there are plans to start domestic flights between Ratmalana and Jaffna and Batticaloa soon.

Jaffna and Batticaloa airports are also expected to be developed as international airports, he said speaking at the inauguration of 144 intermediate housing units for Madhu pilgrims.  

The intermediate housing units were constructed at a cost of Rs. 300 million with the Indian Government assistance.

The Minister said the India and Sri Lanka are looking forward to re-launch tourism activities between the two nations soon under the bio bubble travel programme.(Darshana Sanjeewa Balasuriya)
