The Government has decided to distribute a relief package of vegetables to consumers at a concessionary price of Rs.350 at selected public places, the Agriculture Ministry said.

It said the bag of vegetables consists of six types of vegetables namely Carrots, local Potatoes, Beet, Tomato, Leeks and No-kohl.

The market price of these vegetables is Rs.700. However, the Ministry under the National Policy Framework ‘Vistas of Prosperity and Splendour’ has decided to distribute this package at a concessionary price of Rs.350.

The distribution is being carried out by the National Food Promotion Board through the Agrarian Development Centers which purchases the produce from farmers without any intermediaries to sell them to the consumers.

The programme is available in Fort, Maradana Railway stations, Isurupaya, Suhurupaya, Sethsiripaya and Nugegoda.

It will also be available at three locations in the Kandy District with the participation of the Sri Lanka Hadabima Authority.

The wholesale and retail prices of several varieties of fish have increased considerably because of the low level of supply in the country. (Sheain Fernandopulle)
