Health Minister Rajitha Senaratne would be brought before the Presidential Commission appointed by the President to probe allegations of corruption that had allegedly taken place from January 15, 2015, to December 31, 2018, the Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA) said.

Addressing a news briefing, GMOA Secretary Dr. Haritha Aluthge claimed they had all the evidence to prove the culpability of Mr. Senaratne in terms of his tactics to defend the South Asian Institute of Technology and Medicine (SAITM).

“Dr. Senaratne during his tenure as the Health Minister has ruined the health sector of the country and has created chaos in it,” Dr. Aluthge alleged.

He said Minister Senaratne had used funds of the people to maintain Dr. Neville Fernando Hospital and added they were ready to point out more malpractices that occurred in the Health Sector under the instructions of Minister Senaratne.

“He has been continuously advocating in defending the fraudulent SAITM institution that aggregated the issues in the health sector,” Dr. Aluthge added.

Dr. Aluthge proceeded to say that Minister Senaratne had appointed four chairmen to the Medical Council during his four years as the Health Minister.

“Chairmen like Professor Carlo Fonseka and Professor Colvin Gunaratne had to resign because of mounting pressure from the Minister,” he charged. (Sheain Fernandopulle)
