While expanding the provision of lunch program for schoolchildren, the amount of Rs.30 allocated per student has been increased to Rs.60 from August 1.
The Education Ministry Secretary said the amount allocated so far was insufficient, and the ministry than has decided to increase it.
The programme is currently conducted by the Health and Nutrition Division of the Education Ministry.
So far, 1.1 million schoolchildren in 7,920 schools are benefited through this plan, the ministry secretary said. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
