The prevaling artificial fuel shortage in the country will end by Monday (7), the Ceylon Petroleum Private Bowser Owners' Association (CPPBOA) said.
Secretary of the Association Shantha Silva told the Daily Mirror that the current shortage was only man-made, which is mainly due to a failure in placing orders for required stocks of fuel by the dealers.
"The scarcity and losses incurred to them are due to the dealers who have failed place their order on time," he said.
The fuel prices in the world market has declined sharply and the dealers were hoping for a further reduction as per the fuel pricing formula by the Government, he said.
However, the fuel prices were not revised and the dealers again started placing orders.
According to the Power and Energy Ministry, it is expected to revise the fuel prices on the 1st and the 15th of every month as per the fluctuation of prices in the global market.
Once a shortage is created, it would take at least a maximum of three days to restore the situation. Accordingly, the artificial fuel shortage will end by Monday afternoon and supplies would resume as usual, he said. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
