The country is heading towards facing an acute shortage of fuel and therefore the country is in a bottleneck situation in the future, Ceylon Petroleum Corporation's (CPC) Jathika Sevaka Sangamaya wing (JSS) Secretary Ananda Palitha said.
Addressing the media he said that it has been said that the ship that recently docked in the port had brought crude oil. But it was reported later that it only had brought petrol and not crude oil. Although the government said a shipload of crude oil is expected soon, but there is no such ship in sight. Therefore, this could leave the country in a precarious situation, Palitha said.
However, the CPC chairman recently said that a ship carrying fuel ship had arrived, but he did not mention what type of fuel it brought.
"I said the ship that arrived in the country had brought petrol. No ship with crude in sight as yet and no one has any clue as to when the ship is expected, " Palitha said.
While commenting on the recent Lanka IOC (LIOC) fuel price hike, the trade unionist said a committee of experts should be appointed to control the fuel price regulation and to maintain the fuel standard. It is clearly stated in the CPC Act. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
