The Foreign Affairs Ministry is to seek a diplomatic solution between the two countries regarding the Chinese ship which freighted organic fertilizer to Sri Lanka in 2021, at diplomatic level and the payment of US$ 6.7 million made by the Sri Lankan government.

The decision was announced by the Foreign Affairs Minister Ali Sabri during a discussion at the Agriculture Ministry yesterday.

Agriculture Minister Mahinda Amaraweera, requested the President during a cabinet meeting held earlier to extend the support of the Foreign Affairs Minister to find a solution to this issue in a way that does not damage the long-term friendly ties between Sri Lanka and the Chinese governments with regards to the shipload of Chinese organic manure.

The Foreign Minister also appointed a special official to mitigate the crisis situation related to the fertilizer. He also told that the Agriculture Ministry officials would extend all the necessary support to that official.

Minister Amaraweera also emphasized that all possible measures should be taken to prevent this kind of situation from happening in the future. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
