Five more succumb to Covid-19; death toll surges to 58

A total of five Covid-19 related deaths were reported today taking the death toll in Sri Lanka to 58.

According to the Government Information Department, all the victims are males aged 54, 39, 88, 79 and 88.

The following are the details of the deceased.

01. A 54-year-old male from Jinthupitiya, Colombo 13 was pronounced dead on admission to the Colombo National Hospital. The cause of death has been identified as COVID-19 infection with cancer.

02. A 39-year-old male, a resident of Colombo 15 died after he was admitted to the Homagama Hospital. The cause of death was ruled as cancer and COVID-19 related pneumonia.

03. An 88-year-old male from Colombo 12, who was admitted to the Colombo National Hospital for chest pain, succumbed to the virus upon admission. The cause of death was identified as the exacerbation of COVID-19 infection with cardiac arrest.

04. A 79-year-old male, a resident of Borella, Colombo 08 passed away at his residence. The cause of death was ruled as COVID-19 infection with an exacerbation of lung disease.

05. An 88-year-old male from Colombo 13 was pronounced dead on admission to the Colombo National Hospital. The cause of death has been identified as cardiac arrest and COVID-19 infection. (Sheain Fernandopulle)
