First liquid nitrogen fertiliser consignment arrives from India

The first batch of nano liquid nitrogen fertiliser reached Colombo this morning from India to be used on agricultural activities during the Maha season in the country.

The fertiliser weighing 45 metric tons, was freighted by the Srilankan air cargo at 12.25 am from the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in India.

The largest cargo aircraft (A-330-300) owned by SriLankan Airlines was used for this purpose.

A total of 3.1 million litres of this nano nitrogen liquid fertiliser which have been ordered to be sent to Sri Lanka. The first  volume contained 100,000 litres.

It is planned to import 500,000 litres of this liquid fertiliser this week.

Steps have been taken to provide this fertiliser to farmers through Agrarian Centres in the Ampara, Batticaloa, and Trincomalee Districts, where paddy cultivation has already commenced.

This nano-nitrogen liquid fertiliser contains no heavy metals and is absorbed by the plant leaves 90% of the time.

This fertiliser was manufactured by Indian Farmers' Fertiliser Cooperative Limited (IFFCO) and exported to Sri Lanka.

Steps have been taken to transport the fertiliser to the Colombo Commercial Fertiliser Central Depot in Hunupitiya, Wattala. (T.K.G. Kapila)
