Festive warning to hotels, restaurants

Public Health inspectors have warned that legal action will be taken against hotels and restaurants holding festive events, especially parties, in violation of the quarantine law.

Social media posts have indicted some events had already been held while others indicate such events were to be held last night and on New Year’s Eve.

PHI Association Secretary M. Baalasooriya said that indoor and outdoor parties are banned.

He said that legal action will be taken on hotels and restaurants organising or permitting such events, which could also lead to the licence being cancelled.

Baalasooriya said that raids would be carried out when and where possible and the assistance of the security forces would also be sought if required. He warned that violating the quarantine law would result in a serious situation in January 2021.

Army Commander Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva said that the public should only meet with their relatives and not outsiders.

He said Public Health Inspectors have been conducting raids on parties held in violation of the quarantine law and there was no move so far to deploy the military.

The Army Commander further requested the public to adhere to health guidelines and act responsibly during the festive season. (EASWARAN RUTNAM)
