En Excise officer attached to the Dankotuwa Excise Office had been arrested for illegally transporting ethanol and liquor bottles belonging to a private liquor factory at Pamunugama early this morning.
Police said Western Province Intelligence Unit officers arrested the suspect for transporting five bottles of ethanol and 50 bottles of liquor on a motorcycle in the Dankotuwa area.
The 42-year-old officer was handed over to the Pamunugama Police to be produced in the court.
Meanwhile, the Excise Department said an investigation was launched into the arrested officer and that disciplinary action would be taken against him if found guilty.
