Former Western Provincial Councillor (UNP) Royce Vijitha Fernando, who was arrested over the alleged assault of an individual, was remanded till July 17 by the Negombo Magistrate today.
He was arrested by the Katana Police in Negombo on Saturday.
The 53-year-old former Councillor was the main suspect in the incident in which an individual was assaulted at his house in Katana and his properties robbed on March 23 this year.
Earlier, the Police arrested five suspects in connection with the incident and they are in remanded custody.
