Essential services allowed during quarantine curfew: Army Chief

Essential services including apparel, industries, agricultural activities and pharmacies will remain open during the quarantine curfew imposed from tonight, Army Commander General Shavendra Silva said .

He said the quarantine curfew will be imposed island-wide from 10 p.m today till 4.a.m on August 30.

He said the decision was taken at the COVID-19 Task Force meeting held at the Presidential Secretariat today with President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.

During the curfew, the Army and the Health authorities will continue the vaccination program for people over the age of 60, he said.

General Silva encouraged people to stay at home to prevent the further spread of Covid-19.(Darshana Sanjeewa Balasuriya )
