Vehicle emission testing centres were planning to request the government to increase the emission testing fares by 10%, senior officials of the Drive Green and LAUGFS Eco Sri emission testing centres said.

Drive Green and LAUGFS Eco Sri were the main vehicle emission testing institutions in the country.

Speaking to the Daily Mirror, they said the request was made considering the increase of manufacturing cost and the rent of the mobile locations.

“The importing cost of the emission testing machines was increased due to the SL rupee depreciation against the US$. We have requested to increase the emission testing fares from the Finance Ministry several times but no response was received. Salaries of the employees and the inflation of the stock market also affected the companies. The rental of the testing centres has also increased by 200%,” the officials said.

They said the first emission test centre was established in 2008 and the testing fares were revised until the year 2011 but from 2011 to 2019 no fare revision was done. Therefore, we request a 10% fare increase according to the agreement made with the Department of Motor Traffic, officials further added. (Indika Sri Aravinda)
