7 June 2019 06:33 pm

The Presidential Secretariat (PS) has said necessary action will be taken against those held responsible for the failure to prevent the Easter Sunday attack based on the findings of the committee appointed by President Maithripala Sirisena no sooner the Attorney General's opinion is received, Chief Government Whip Gayantha Karunathilake told Parliament today.

He said this from a statement sent by the Presidential Secretariat in response to a question raised by JVP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake whether the committee was in the process of preparing the detailed report.

Quoting the statement, he said the committee had completed its investigations on May 31, 2019 and that the final report would be handed over to the President shortly.

The MP asked about the government’s mechanism to convey accurate information to the people to counter false news being disseminated.

Quoting from the Presidential Secretariat's statement, the Chief Government Whip said the police and the tri-forces were briefing the people with daily updates.

However, the MP said he was not satisfied and requested for a detailed answer.

The Chief Government Whip said he would inform the Presidential Secretariat on the views expressed on this matter. (Ajith Siriwardana and Yohan Perera)
