EC raises concerns to party officials

The Election Commission (EC) has raised its concerns over the change in the election system and discussed the several issues pertaining to the election system with the party secretaries today.

The discussion was convened at 10.00 am yesterday at the Election Commission office with the attendance of EC officials, party delegates and EC permanent representatives.

The meeting was mainly convened in order to request party officials to pass legislation in the next parliamentary session for the sake of facilitation of maintaining the election system.

An EC official told Daily Mirror that the matters like amending cash deposit in next elections through a piece of legislation, carrying out limitations and proper finance into election campaigns, were taken into discussion.

Moreover, the EC has requested the party representatives to raise and discuss the matter of legal ambiguity in holing the provisional council election in the next parliamentary session.

There has also been an evaluation of the recently ended presidential election during the discussion where the party officials and EC officials have expressed thanks to each other for bearing all the hard work in ending the election on a successful note. (Sheain Fernandopulle)
