The Negombo Magistrate today permitted the Negombo Division Crimes Unit officers to detain Chilaw Urban Councillor Warnakulasuriya Stanley Lewis Fernando, who was arrested on charges of drug trafficking.
The UC member was arrested on Monday at Dankotuwa town and was detained until April 14. On March 23, the police arrested two suspects at Katuwapitiya in Negombo on charges of being in possession of one kilo of heroin.
Investigations revealed that the 65-year-old urban councilor, a resident of Chilaw, was wanted for aiding and abetting in smuggling heroin. (Darshana Sanjeewa)
