Dr. Mohamed Shafi Shihabdeen of the Kurunegala Hospital was granted bail by the Kurunegala Magistrate’s Court this evening.
He was released on a cash bail of Rs.250,000 and four sureties of Rs.2.5 million each.
The 42-year-old doctor was arrested by the police on May 24 and later handed over to the CID. He was first accused of earning assets through suspicious means.
Later on, he was accused of performing illegal sterilisation surgeries on a large number of women.
