Don’t vote for anyone linked to Maithripala: Prasanna

People should not cast their vote for anyone, who has any connection with former President Maithripala Sirisena, who is contesting the forthcoming general election from the ‘Pohottuwa', Minister Prasanna Ranatunga said.

Participating in an event at Mahara, he said it was better to cast a vote for people who strived to form the combination of Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Mahinda Rajapaksa.

“I am sure people will sling slung mud at me for the statement I made with regard to Maithripala Sirisena. I would also be in hot water during the party leaders’ meeting. However, I know for sure that people stand by me despite whoever rejects me and thus I am not afraid of expressing my stance,” he added.

He further said in 2015, former President Sirisena acted against Mahinda Rajapaksa by quitting the SLFP and deciding to be the common candidate representing the UNP.

“We doubt if Maithripala would do something similar this time with his decision to contest the general election under the Pohottuwa' symbol", Ranatunga added. (Sheain Fernandopulle)
