Army Chief and Head of the National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO), Lt. General Shavendra Silva yesterday said they did not intend to lockdown or impose a curfew in the entire Colombo District over the weekend as they had not tracked down any more areas which posed a threat from the COVID-19 as of now.
Speaking to Daily Mirror, Silva said authorities were on a 'proactive strategy' and curfew was being imposed in areas according to the number of patients being detected and the threat that area was posing to its adjoining areas.
"So far according to the positive cases and their associates that we have detected, we do not foresee a lockdown of the Colombo District. But we have to go by the positive cases coming in today and tomorrow. If we see a large number coming from one particular area, and their contacts, and if this will have an effect on the neighbouring areas, then we will not hesitate to impose curfew, whatever the place," Silva said.
He further said under President Gotabaya Rajapaksa's instructions, authorities were also constantly checking on the areas that were already under a curfew and if any area which is under curfew clears in the coming days, then authorities will not hesitate to lift the curfew. (JAMILA HUSAIN)
