Western Province Chief Minister Isura Devapriya said yesterday he had requested the President to dissolve the Western, Southern and Uva Provincial Councils in order to hold elections for all nine provinces on the same day.

He said the terms of the Western, Southern and Uva PCs would be expired in a few months, whereas the terms of other Provincial Councils had expired already.

“The terms of the Western, Southern and Uva Provincial Councils will be expired in a few months and all chief ministers have unanimously decided to dissolve the councils' terms,” he said.

Responding to a question raised by a journalist on whether the former economic development minister would contest for the Western Province Chief Minister’s post from Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP), he said no such information was received yet.

“However, the decision to appoint a new chief minister to the Western Province has to be taken by the President. Therefore, there will be no hesitation in appointing Basil Rajapaksa to the post,” he said. (Indika Sri Aravinda)
