Claiming that about 7,000 pregnant mothers have been infected by the Covid-19 so far in Sri Lanka, Family Health Bureau Director Dr. Chithramali de Silva said today there was a decrease in Covid-19 cases among pregnant mothers during the last two weeks.

She told a news conference at the Informations Department that 55 deaths of Covid infected pregnant mothers have been reported in Sri Lanka so far.

She said 6,000 out of the total of 7,000 cases have been reported after the onset of the third wave in May this year.

Dr. Silva said more than 90% of the pregnant mothers have got the Covid-19 vaccines and requested all the pregnant mothers to do so, as it would prevent them developing complications and death.

She said none of the pregnant mothers who had received both the doses of Covid vaccine had died in Sri lanka. (Ajith Siriwardana)
